What information should My Story contain?

Your story should be no longer than 300 words (about one A4 typed)

Don't tell us your WHOLE story. Only the very important bits that highlight why the old family laws were failures, or why we need strong or stronger shared care laws.

Please ensure that your story is as honest account.

Do not use this as an opportunity to criticise people. Focus on the system and how it has facilitated co-operation or it has encouraged conflict.

You should not identify any person by name, or by any other information that could lead a stranger to identify that person.

Suggested Format

  • Start with a short introduction of yourself and your family
  • Comment on the efforts you went to post-separation to facilitate a workable child-centred arrangement with your ex-spouse.
  • Comment on the support or lack of support provided to you and/or your ex spouse
  • Comment on how the system was exploited or misused, eg, false allegations, manipulation, parental alienation, gender bias, financial discrimination, improper use of AVO's, etc.
  • Comment on the parts of the law that worked as intended.
  • Comment on the repercussions of these failures, for instance, your children have grown up without a father, you have experienced depression, you have been left financially destitute, your children have behavioural problems, etc, etc.
  • Your conclusion, confirm your belief that the current laws/previous laws have helped or failed you and you family.
  • make some considered suggestions on how it can be further improved.
