To complain about a government business, department,
agency or
local government in your State or Territory

Your State/Territory Ombudsman can independently and impartially investigate, review and resolve complaints concerning state / territory / local government departments and agencies, statutory authorities, public servants, local councillors and council staff and police. Any person, organisation or association or MP on behalf of a constituent can make a complaint.
There is no charge to you.


VICTORIA

(1) State Ombudsman

The Victorian Ombudsman investigates some complaints about police. But most are referred to the police for investigation and then reviewed by the Ombudsman.

How to complain
Your complaint must be put in writing. The Act requires this. If you have difficulty with writing or with English, the Ombudsman may accept a
signed statement taken during interview.

You may also be able to obtain advice by contacting either -
    • the State Government department with responsibilities in the specific area of your complaint eg. planning, community services, education
or
    • the Office of Local Government (03 9208 3333) which is responsible for policy development in respect of local government in Victoria.
